- Costumes should be warm, comfortable and visable.
- Make sure your child carries a flashlight, glow stick or has reflective tape on their costume to make them more visible to cars.
- Children should always go out trick or treating accompanied by a responsible adult. If older, let them know that they should stay together and have a planned route.
- Some towns set a curfew for trick or treating which makes it easier for townsfolk to know who’s coming to their door. Make sure and stick to the curfew times.
- Tell children not to cut through alleys and fields if they are not with a parent. Stay in populated, well lighted areas with lots of people around. Talk about the dangers associated with this and what can happen and how to handle if something comes up.
- Talk to your children about not eatting any treats until they bring it home and you examine it. Explain why you need to check the candy before they eat it.
