Just the word itself can make you tense up. Go ahead and tighten up your muscles, grit your teeth, turn bright red and say it!
Stress! Stress!
Say it like you were trying to untighten a rusted bolt! pretty bad, huh? Feel it physically? Getting a headache? Does the word , said in such a way, evoke painful thoughts and feelings?
Now try something different
Take a deep breath. Now take another… Loosen up your shoulders, your neck, your chest, all your muscles…relax, relax
now say the word again…stress….stress…say it as if talking to a kitten or a puppy – say it calmly, gently … without emotion.. A bit different this time, isn’t ?
Relax
Do you feel calmer, more relaxed? This exercise was an easy way to show you that it is not the fact that stress exists in our lives-it does for all of us. It is more important to understand how your reaction to stress is what causes you tension, physical discomfort…problems. What if you could train yourself to react differently?
